Hunger Explodes In Northern Illinois!.JPG)
New data released today by Feeding America shows NIFB is serving 168% more people annually compared to just four years ago. The study, Hunger in America 2010, is the first national study to evaluate the hunger issue in the United States since the drastic downturn in the economy. The results also confirm what NIFB member agencies have been reporting about the increased numbers they are seeing in need of food assistance. Over the last year alone 35% more people are utilizing NIFB food pantries and soup kitchens. Click here to learn more about the findings.

Lose Weight and Help Feed Hungry Neighbors! NIFB is excited to share our partnership with the Pound for Pound Challenge. For the second consecutive year, Feeding America is partnering with General Mills, Subway, 24 Hour Fitness, Walgreens, and The Biggest Loser to encourage Americans to lose weight through the Pound for Pound Challenge. The program is built around the incredible success of NBC’s The Biggest Loser, a reality show that challenges and encourages overweight contestants to shed pounds in a safe manner through diet and exercise. NIFB needs your support to make our involvement a success! Now through June 30, 2010, individuals can go to pfpchallenge.com to pledge their weight-loss goals. For every pound you pledge, the Pound for Pound sponsors 14 cents to Feeding America with much of that donation coming directly to NIFB! Click here to follow our blog!!

Kids Feeding Kids Raises $20,000 for NIFB!
Six year old Carson Pazdan already had a passion for cooking when he asked his mom, Alyssa, how he could use cooking to help less fortunate kids. That simple question gave rise to the Kids Feeding Kids cookbook. Carson and his mom then collected hundreds of recipes from area kids who wanted to be a part of the project. Even celebrities like Oprah submitted recipes! The cookbook went on sale last September with all of the proceeds to benefit the Food Bank's Youth Nutrition Program. Nearly 2,000 books were sold to raise over $20,000! Thank you Carson, Alyssa, and the Kids Feeding Kids Club for your dedication to feeding hungry children!
